MONOPRINTS

are like a painting, one of a kind, original and stand alone piece.

Monoprints start with an image on the surface of a plate (metal (copper or zinc typically), plexiglass, gel, milk carton, or wood etc.) and that image is then transferred to a piece of prepared (dampened) paper.  When the plate and the paper are met by the pressure of the press or barren, the image transfers and so your original work is created.   Adding any other media such as watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, ink, pen or collage may be added after the print has been "pulled" from the press to create interest and originality, with the exception of chine colle’, which uses rice glue to attach mixed media to the print surface prior to going through the press.
